My Career
I have been working in the User Experience industry for around seven years, with experience both at small companies (S.A. Technologies), and larger corporations (The Coca-Cola Company and State Farm).
At State Farm
I am a User Experience Lead, overseeing management and delivery of a variety of projects. Primarily, I work on State Farm's mobile app 'Pocket Agent', and lead two teams of amazing UX talent (architects, designers, and content strategists) in collaboration with our business and development partners to continually improve the look and feel of our flagship app. I am responsible for the quality and timeliness of all UX work our team delivers, to ensure that they meet standards for the brand, for the platform, and according to UX best practices.
As a UX Lead, across any project to which I am attached, my primary responsibilities include:
• Lead the creation of quality UX designs, ensuring alignment with the higher-level strategy and serve as a primary champion of user-centered design principles.
• Foster collaborative relationships, both internally with our UX resources, and with our business and development partners.
• Being accountable for timely delivery of quality digital artifacts (UI framework and flows, final detailed design, brand standard components/deviations, conditional interactions and error states, final content/copy, among many others).
• Work closely with UX Strategy roles to ensure (1) Overall UX strategy is being executed properly on a project; and (2) Help identify and define standards of practice and UX patterns.
At The Coca-Cola Company
At the Coca-Cola Company, I worked with numerous clients in a variety of different functions - HR, IT, Finance, Bottling, etc. This included work with partners across the globe. I was heavily involved with the scoping of work - identifying the pieces of UX work needed for a specific project and establishing timelines to complete the work. I was also the primary UX person involved with executing the work, and creating the final UX deliverables.
My work specifically revolved around four areas:
In My Prior Life
Before entering the field of UX, I worked in Academia for several years, as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Duke University; and as an Assistant Professor (in charge of running a laboratory in Human Cognition) at Clarkson University.
